BALL HANDLING
While it's usually good to have control of the ball, holding on to it comes at a cost!

Players that are holding the ball cannot attack, and their running speed,
falling speed, jumping speed and dash distance are all reduced.
The degree to which your movement is affected is different for each character.
KNOW YOUR MOVES
Each character has several different kinds of attacks.
ON THE GROUND

ATTACK BUTTON - NEUTRAL ATTACK
Neutral Attacks are powerful and can knock opponents down,
but can be difficult to land.
ATTACK BUTTON (while running) - RUNNING ATTACK
Running Attacks are fast and often have great range, but little hitstun.
ATTACK BUTTON (while holding DOWN) - CROUCH ATTACK
Crouch Attacks are difficult to hit players with
and are often used to launch the ball.
IN THE AIR

ATTACK BUTTON - NEUTRAL AIR ATTACK
Neutral Air Attacks tend to have good knockback and
can be great for launching the ball.
ATTACK BUTTON (while moving) - LEAPING ATTACK
With fast startup and great range, Leaping Attacks are the easiest attacks to land.
ATTACK BUTTON (while holding UP) - UP AIR ATTACK
Up Air Attacks tend to have good range, but not much knockback or hitstun, with one notable exception.
ATTACK BUTTON (while holding DOWN) - SPIKE ATTACK
Spike Attacks launch the target down. They generally have decent range and slow startup. They also knock players down, making them good over ground and deadly over water.
THROWS

Players can throw the ball in 8 directions, depending on the direction being held when the attack button is pressed.
EDGE GUARDING
Remember that players earn a point for each goal, but lose a point for falling in.

Even if you're forced to give up a goal, deny the other player the chance to return
to land, or spike them into the water with attacks.
HELPLESS PLAYERS
Players that are helpless will be stunned for much longer if hit.

Make sure to hit helpless players with your strongest attack!
Taking a hit while helpless and over water is almost always fatal.
